FAQ
What type of digital files
do you sell? Can I play them on my iPod?
All our
downloads are MP3, free from Digital Rights Management (DRM).
This enables you to play music purchase from our store on all types of MP3
players, computers and phones - iPod, PC, Mac and most Mobile/Cellular Phones .
Why no DRM?
We are selling music to people
the same as us - music lovers. Needless to say, we treat all our customers the
same, whether they buy a 7" Single on tour, order a CD Album from our
mail-order website, or download a track from here, our Online Store. If we
imposed DRM, then it would be like policing every customer that walks out of
our stores, not allowing them to enjoy the music at their own discretion. We
strongly feel that this is wrong.
What quality
are your MP3's?
Every MP3 we sell is encoded
using the LAME encoding program,
widely acknowledged as the best MP3 encoder available anywhere.
Every recording available has
been encoded at the bitrate
of 320kbps – the highest MP3 will go, and hence maximum sound quality for the
MP3 format. These MP3's are good enough to play out in clubs over a system, and
will stand up to CD when listening at home on a decent stereo.
Do I need to install any
software?
Quite simply,
no. Everything from listening to track
previews, purchasing, to downloading your tracks is handled through our website
– you don't need to install anything to use the Erased Tapes Online Store.
Can I preview/listen to
songs before I buy?
Yes indeed, you can preview a
sample of every track. In our player, click the little PLAY link next to each
track. It fades out/stops after 30 seconds (a legal requirement). You can
preview some of the tracks in full on our Official website (erasedtapes.com)
and on our MySpace account.
What are your prices?
Our standard track price is
0.80p (for a 320kbps MP3 this is the cheapest price of any service). Some very
long tracks (e.g. 15 mins+) are priced at £1.60.
Are you legal and do
artists/labels get paid?
The Erased Tapes Online Store is
a service offered by Erased Tapes Records, a company founded on principles of
dealing with its artists on a fair and equal basis. This digital store is of
course totally ‘legal’, and artists/labels get paid their due share of any
sales through this site. Shopping at the Erased Tapes Online Store means
revenues are going to artists to make more music.
When are new releases
uploaded for pre-sale?
New releases appear for pre-sale
on the site on a Monday, usually 4-6 weeks before the official release date.
What payment do you accept?
You can pay by PayPal using your
registered email address or Credit Card, Debit Card etc.
Do you accept PayPal?
Yes. For PayPal orders there is
a small surcharge on orders below £5.
Please Note: All
transaction surcharges are imposed by the payment service providers involved
and not by Erased Tapes Records.
Is your website secure?
All our secure forms are 128bit
SSL encrypted (the internet standard). When you login to our website (you can
create an account with just an email address and password, no need for credit
card to be entered until you wish to buy something) you will see that the whole
site goes to a https// secure address. Credit card details are securely stored
by PayPal using encryption.
Is my account private? What
do you do with my email address?
Your account is completely private. We
do not give your email address to any third parties. You are automatically
added to the Erased Tapes newsletter unless you uncheck the option on the
registration page. You can un-subscribe at any time by
simply replying to the email with ‘please erased me.’
